Head On, Stop Touching Me!
I think everyone has seen that Head On commercial where they repeat over and over, “Head on, apply directly to the forehead.” I’ve never understood the point of that stupid commercial but everyone remembers it, don’t they? I have decided that a mother of a talkative toddler must have come up with that idea.
I think any parent would agree with me. Anyone who has experienced, “Mom, mom, mom, mom, mom, mom, mom, MOM!” has to see the comparison. Who else would know that you have to yell something over and over to a woman who has learned to tune out continuous whining and pestering.
As much as I don’t want to admit it, the practice works. I cannot remember how many times I have tuned out the first 20 stanzas of the song, “Mom, can I have a cookie?” only to finally hear it on the 21st try and hand over a cookie. Pavlov and his dog taught us that this sort of reinforcement only increases the behavior.
Obviously, the Head On marketing team thinks so, too.

I change the channel every time that commercial comes on. I think it is irrating. While the repeating of a word does make one remember it would have been nice for them to do so in a less Blahhhhhh (for lack of a better word) way.
