Don’t Super Size Me

I set a goal the first of November to spend the entire month cooking and not eating any takeout or fast food. I haven’t done a day by day account of what I’ve been cooking or doing, but I am happy to say that we have made it the entire month without once eating takeout or fast food. I’ve discovered a few new recipes, made homemade bread, and made more attempts to eat locally grown food and buy organic ingredients.

I mentioned to my son that we have made it almost a month with no takeout and asked him if he missed it. He said no, he didn’t miss it at all. I thought I would also be craving eating out or counting the days until this little “experiment” was over, but I was pleasantly surprised that I feel like we could continue on this way with no problems whatsoever.

I haven’t noticed that much of a change in how I feel physically, but I have noticed a change mentally and emotionally. I’m not sure if the two are related, but I’d like to think they were. Either way, it’s turning out to be a healthy experiment that proved to me that I can keep a hectic, busy schedule without giving in to eating crappy food.

Wow, I salute you for doing that. I can avoid fast food, but I would truly struggle to avoid take out or eating out. Greg and I have become the stereotypical New Yorkers with nothing but drinks and condiments in our fridge. Maybe I should try this, too, but maybe just a week to start with!
