Hell’s Kitchen, Literally
I have set a new goal for myself to eat out less and cook more. I love to cook and experiment with various recipes but my schedule has caused me to become lazy and take the easy way out many times through takeout and quick fix items. There is a casserole in the south called “King Ranch Chicken” that is very popular and I think if you polled 100 different people, you would get 100 different ways to make this dish. The main ingredients are chicken (duh), corn chips or corn tortillas, cheese, onions, peppers, some sort of tomato or enchilada sauce and cream of chicken soup. I usually make it with a can of diced Ro-tel tomatoes which covers the peppers part.
Last night I did a little experiment and tried something I had never tried before. A friend of mine who never cooks anymore gave me her rotisserie oven and I have been a chicken grilling fool. So, I used the grilled chicken, corn tortillas, cream of chicken soup, a can of diced ro-tel tomatoes, french onion soup, and grated cheese (the Mexican cheese blend). As far as simple recipes goes with absolutely no work, that turned out great! The most work I did was seasoning and grilling the chicken and removing the meat.
Tonight I am invited to one of those murder mystery dinners/Halloween party. I have decided to take sun-dried tomato pesto puff pastry twists. I also had to make a quick stop by the liquor store for some Vampire wine, because what Halloween party is complete without a glass of Vampire wine, straight from Transylvania? However, to my surprise, they now have Werewolf wine! This was great news, but caused a dilemma, because there will be fondue at this party and I had to take my all-time favorite white wine, Fendant du Valais, from Switzerland. So, I passed on the Werewolf wine, for now, and settled for the Vampire merlot.
Next on the list is . . . What the H am I going to wear? I was assigned the role of some Scottish mystery writer, I forgot her name. What in the world do you wear to play the role of a Scottish mystery writer? The invitation suggested a plaid tartain skirt, but I can guarantee that’s not happening. So, I have now decided on a black turtleneck (luckily it’s actually cool in Texas at the moment), black skirt, black boots, and a plaid scarf. Now I just hope I’m the murderer and get to chop someone up and put them in the freezer. If I’m a mystery writer, I need material, right?

Have you changed your layout? I just get a think line of text.

I’ve always wanted to go to one of those dinners. I hope you’re the killer, that would be cool! Let me know how it was.

Tina, I ended up not being the killer, but I was only 1 or 2 who guessed the killer correctly, so I was excited about that!
It was fun, but it’s a little complicated, especially if you have a bunch of people playing who are focusing more on enjoying their wine than giving the right clues! LOL.

Hey, guessing right is always great. Unfortunately I’m one of those people who would get aggitated at those enjoying the wine more than the clues. I need exact help dang it! I have a serious win at any cost complex.
